Implementation Science fundamentals
Implementation science is important for achieving lasting impact
What is implementation science?
Implementation science is the process of putting to use or integrating new practices within a setting, be it service or practice or policy change.
Implementation science focuses on taking interventions that have been found to be effective using methodologically rigorous designs (e.g., randomised controlled trials, quasi-experimental designs, hybrid designs) under real-world conditions, and integrating them into practice settings using deliberate strategies and processes.
With the advent of implementation science, there has been a plethora of models and processes developed and tested that show the necessary factors to consider both in preparing for and in doing your implementation.
This workshop focuses on how to move existing evidence into a practice of policy setting.
- Learn about the models and frameworks for implementation.
- Understand the terminology, definitions and processes required for effective implementation.
- Learn what makes for effective implementation, teams, processes, factors, strategies and evaluation.
- Understand the mechanisms and how to of implementation teams.
- Know how to select an appropriate implementation process.
- Develop strategies to assess organisational readiness and ensure implementation fidelity.
- Understand organisational change mechanisms and human behaviour elements to ensure your success.
Leave us your details so we can tell you when we will be running a workshop near you. We will never give your details to anyone and we promise not to send you endless information!
All our workshops include
To examine our performance (impact), and to provide feedback regarding the value of the workshop to the individual and their organisation.
During the workshop participants will work on relevant elements for their own projects. Participants will leave with ideas and a plan of next steps to be undertaken.
Handouts, activity sheets and information. Participants will have a valuable resource to refer back to as they implement their new knowledge.
All workshops include a follow-up coaching session with each participant to cover any questions and concerns and to facilitate the implementation process.
Participants will use action items developed during the workshop to develop a purposeful and strategic plan. We make sure that time out for this workshop is not wasted but instead leveraged.
What people are saying about our workshops
The workshop was made accessible to all participants irrespective of their academic experience. Because of this, it really helped me to take away some practical tips and feel equipped to apply them to my own work. Highly recommend.
Thank you – the whole day was engaging and thought provoking. Well worth attending!
I enjoyed the workshop very much and I left with a solid understanding of how I could build impact pathways into my project design.
Tamika is a very engaging, knowledgeable and patient presenter. I enjoyed the workshop very much and I left with a solid understanding of how I could build impact pathways into my project design. I hadn’t thought about that before, and now I not only have an understanding of how to engage in knowledge translation, Tamika has given me the tools I need for that translation to generate real impact with my end users. And that’s what research should be about.
The session was wonderful
The session was wonderful, I’ve already updated my impact statements and had some glowing reviews about the new version. Thank you for being supportive and encouraging, as well!
I am excited and relieved to be successful for an NHMRC investigator award
I am excited and relieved to be successful for an NHMRC investigator award. Your session on preparing for this grant enabled me to get my head around what might be required in terms of research impact, and helped me articulate my research impact for the application. Thanks to your workshop, I learnt this important skill.
Instructive and engaging workshop
Thanks for an instructive and engaging workshop. It was really timely. I went straight to a research project planning meeting and could make suggestions to our design so we could capture metrics around impact which was great.
Really enjoyed the workshop, unfortunately I was only able to attend after morning tea, i found it was really helpful and helped me make plans to plan research with impact
Engage them early in your planning
I would recommend RI Academy to any researcher wanting to ensure real impact clinically or otherwise. Engage them early in your planning
Has given us valuable tools to create a research project that will have great impact.
We brought Tamika in to support us in commencing a Participatory Action Research project that will have high impact in CFA. Tamika has been great to work with right from the start and has given us valuable tools to create a research project that will have great impact. Through this process, we are starting our research off on a solid ground with a shared vision, smart goals and a map of our stakeholders.
KT Australia provides valuable objective opinion and guidance
KT Australia provides valuable objective opinion and guidance, enabling a more directed and cohesive application
They provided guidance as to what I need to do in the future to drive impact
It was great to have input from experts in how to write a research impact case for grant funding purposes. But importantly, they provided guidance as to what I need to do in the future to drive impact
KT Australia provided excellent advice
KT Australia provided excellent advice and fine-tuning of impact, innovation and significance sections of grants I am leading.
Knowledge translation in its true form
“If I had done this KT Australia workshop with Tamika before embarking on my project, I would have been more successful in actually conducting knowledge translation in its true form – from dissemination to implementation in practice.”
I went from being a social media non-user to an active participant in just one day!
With a recent introduction to the concepts of KT I was excited and hopeful to be referred to Knowledge Translation Australia. I found Tamika to be a great ambassadress for the place and processes of KT in research and practice. I look forward to contributing to the ‘closing of the loop’
